Clubhouse, 1908
From the club heritage library.
In 1849, on the shoreline of Hong Kong Harbour where the City Hall stands today, the original Victoria Recreation Clubhouse was established. Having been in operation in Canton since 1832, the Victoria Recreation Club is distinguished as the oldest sporting and recreation club in the territory. Some of the first recreational activities in Victoria Harbour were Victoria Recreation Club competitions in swimming and water polo dating back to the 1850s.
